I have really fine curls and need help with my routine

I’ve tried using mousse and gel, but my curls look weighed down. What can I do to get more definition and less frizz without weighing down my curls?

You’re not alone—this is one of the most common challenges for fine curls. Using both mousse and gel can sometimes be too heavy, causing frizz, flatness, or stiff curls.

Here are a few small tweaks that can help you achieve more bounce and definition:

1. Apply gel to soaking-wet hair
This helps lock in moisture before frizz has a chance to form.

2. Use one medium-hold gel instead of both
Layering multiple stylers can weigh down fine curls. A single, lightweight gel is often enough for soft, defined results.

3. Let the gel cast set fully
Wait until curls are completely dry before scrunching out the cast. This protects definition and prevents frizz.

4. Skip the oil
Heavier oils—like coconut—can sit on the surface and create buildup or dullness. Fine curls do best with lightweight hydration instead.

5. Choose formulas made for fine curls
Look for products that hydrate without heaviness or residue.
